AIG Men’s Junior All-Americans take on Seattle OPSB

As part of their preparation for the Junior World Rugby Trophy, the AIG Men’s Junior All-Americans (MJAA) want the best domestic competition they can find and they are coming here to Seattle for it. The Seattle assembly will serve as one last opportunity for the remaining 30 players to express themselves competitively before the final traveling squad of 26 is announced.
This weekend’s match between the men of Seattle OPSB and the MJAA will be a highly competitive, training stride for both teams. Seattle OPSB is the top ranked club in premier Northwest rugby and was Rugby Mags pick for the top team in the USA recently and the MJAAs are recognized as the best rugby players in America under the age of 20. The BC Premier League is currently the top domestic competition in North America and the Seattle OPSB men currently sit at 2nd place making them a great match for the nations top U20 men.
The link between both organizations this week is Justin Fitzpatrick, Director of High Performance here at Serevi Rugby®. As Head Coach of Seattle OPSB 15s, and Assistant Coach of the USA Eagles, Fitzpatrick is not only a key component in recruiting for Seattle OPSB but also in funneling players through The USA Rugby Academy and Serevi’s Performance Pathway. Our relationship with USA Rugby National Team coaches like Fitzpatrick, makes Serevi a dominate contributor to the Talent Identification element of the Academy.
MJAA is the third USA national team Seattle has hosted in the last 12 months (Mens 7’s ahead of the world cup/ Mens XV’s ahead of the ARC), it reaffirms the city, Serevi Rugby and Seattle OPSB as a leading light in USA rugby both in players development, competition and coaching.” – Justin Fitzpatrick
With the help from a combined side of Seattle OPSB’s three men’s teams, the MJAA men are looking to build from their less than satisfying season last summer and get back to the top. The young men won the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy in 2012 and finished the 2012 season undefeated in six matches. The IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy Tournament will take place in Hong Kong with pool play competition starting April 7. MJAA will play Hong Kong U20, Georgia, and Tonga U20, leading into the play offs.
Kick off is scheduled for 10:00am at Interlake High School in Bellevue, WA. Serevi Rugby Ambassadors will be on the sidelines selling apparel, offering information about all of our current and upcoming Training Camps, and ready to answer questions about the USA Rugby Academy and the Performance Pathway.
