All Play, No Politics – Serevi Rugby Set to Power Capital Rugby Union

The 3 year partnership establishes on-going coach education and player development camps provided by Serevi.


[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap1′]S[/bra_dropcaps]EATTLE – (November 10, 2014) – Serevi Rugby® (serevirugby.com), a leading provider of on-field programming for players and coaches from beginner to the U.S. National Team, has reached a 3 year “Powered by Serevi” partnership with the Capital Rugby Union (rugby.org) on a series of 15s and 7s coaching education clinics and player development camps. In addition to these clinics and camps, Serevi – a provider of the USA Rugby Academy and official youth partner of USA Rugby – will identify talent for USA Rugby national team pathway consideration and provide consultation to the Capital Rugby Union (CRU) to develop a USA Rugby National Development Academy.

To effectively accelerate development, 15s and 7s camps will alternate between seasons, focusing on several key components of performance including core skills, unit development, tactic awareness, strength and conditioning, and both individual and season-long session planning.

Leading Serevi’s coaching team in the Capital Rugby Union’s partnership are USA Men’s Rugby assistant coach and 20 year professional rugby player Justin Fitzpatrick and Ben Gollings, the IRB’s all-time leading 7s scorer and USA Rugby Junior Olympic Men’s 7s coach, as well as Serevi’s pool of existing coaches including a number of current USA Eagles.
Serevi maintains a national partnership with USA Rugby, the sport’s national governing body, to hold a national network of High Performance Training Camps under the umbrella of the USA Rugby Academy – powered by Serevi. Throughout 2014, these Training Camps have already identified top many players and put them on a specific development pathway to the men’s and women’s U.S. National Teams. The Serevi-USAR partnership also provides a series of youth development programs which introduce and build a core set of skills applicable to both 15s and 7s rugby and across the youth, high school and collegiate player spectrum, as well as to coaches at all levels.

The Capital Rugby Union (CGU) began in Fall 2013, as a result of the consolidation of the Virginia Rugby Union (info) and the Potomac Rugby Union (info), both formerly part of the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union.
