[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap1′]S[/bra_dropcaps]EATTLE – (April 17, 2014) – Serevi Rugby® (serevirugby.com), a leading provider of on-field programming for players and coaches from beginner to the U.S. National Team, has partnered with Central Washington University (CWU) Rugby (wildcatsports.com) to help the Wildcats regularly compete for national championships, produce Olympic and National Team-worthy athletes, and to grow participation in the sport on campus. Through a 3-year agreement, Serevi – a provider of the USA Rugby Academy and official youth partner of USA Rugby – will deliver on-field coaching support in both rugby 15s and 7s, program and recruitment support in the form of talent identification and referrals to CWU coaches, and off-field analysis of CWU games and specific technical aspects of training.

[bra_blockquote align=”]Given the strong foundation of rugby already in place at Central Washington, we believe our coaches and skill-building techniques can take their program to the next level to compete with any university in the country,” said . As we help to continue the upward momentum of CWU’s rugby program, we also want to build the base of those interested in the game, so more crossover athletes are exposed and see the opportunities rugby can provide to them.”
Ross Young – CEO, Serevi Rugby[/bra_blockquote]
To strengthen player recruitment and build awareness of the Central Washington’s rugby facilities, Serevi and CWU Rugby will hold residence camps for youth players from across the region on campus during the summer school breaks. Through the partnership, Serevi will also help in the development of up-and-coming CWU assistant coaches through short-term observation and practical internships with the USA Rugby Academy powered by Serevi, the “Serevi Selects” elite level men’s and women’s teams, and the Serevi supported and nationally ranked Seattle OPSB men’s club rugby team.

[bra_blockquote align=”]From hands-on skill development of our players, to improving the visibility of our program in the larger world of rugby, to the further development of our coaching strategies, partnering with the team at Serevi is going to improve our program from top to bottom. Through this partnership we expect to recruit and train the top rugby players in the nation so we can play for national titles each year, produce outstanding young men and women, and develop talented players who can someday represent our country on the rugby field.”
Tony Pacheco – Director of Rugby and Men’s Rugby Head Coach, CWU[/bra_blockquote]
Leading Serevi’s coaching team in the CWU partnership is Pate Tuilevuka, a former USA Eagle player, professional in Europe, and veteran of collegiate game having been a three-year starter at Brigham Young University. Throughout the year-long program Serevi will also provide training from the leading coaches today’s game including International Rugby Board (IRB) Hall of Fame member and winner of two Rugby 7s World Cups Waisale Serevi, the IRB’s all time leading 7s scorer Ben Gollings, Irish veteran and USA Men’s Rugby assistant coach Justin Fitzpatrick, and Serevi’s pool of existing coaches including a number of current USA Eagles.
In late 2013 Serevi announced a national partnership with USA Rugby, the sport’s national governing body, to launch a national network of High Performance Training Camps under the umbrella of the USA Rugby Academy – powered by Serevi. Throughout the winter and spring of 2014, these Training Camps have identified top players and put them on a specific development pathway to the men’s and women’s U.S. National Teams. The partnership also created a series of youth development programs which introduce and build a core set of skills applicable to both 15s and 7s rugby and across the youth, high school and collegiate player spectrum, as well as to coaches at all levels.
