After all the training, all the hard work, all the sacrifices the players have had to make, today is what it has all been about. The players prepared well over night and loved their visit to the opening ceremony. For the manager, it’s all about the last minute checks and making sure the players don’t have to think about anything but performing on the day.
First up against Fiji was a tough loss, but the team has great character and really pulled together for the match against Columbia. The time between games is tough. We have 5 hours between games, which can be hard both physically and mentally on the players. Before the Olympics, we organized several tournaments where we created these conditions. The players know the routines in the 5 hour period, and can switch on and off to prepare appropriately. I think the benefit of this showed in the Columbia game and the players now feel fully in competition mode. We’ll relax and analyze tonight and be ready to continue our fight for a medal tomorrow.
