[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap1′]S[/bra_dropcaps]EATTLE – (October 23, 2014) – Entering its 51st year, the Husky Rugby Club at University of Washington (huskyrugby.com) has partnered with Serevi Rugby® (serevirugby.com), a leading provider of on-field programming for players and coaches from beginner to the U.S. National Team, to help the Huskies grow the men’s and women’s programs and compete at the highest levels of collegiate rugby. Through the 5-year agreement, Serevi – a provider of the USA Rugby Academy and an official youth partner of USA Rugby – will deliver on-field coaching support in both 15s and 7s, support recruitment in the form of talent identification and referrals to UW coaches, and develop rugby specific strength and conditioning programs for players.

[bra_blockquote align=”]The Husky Rugby Club has a long, proud tradition that we’ll build upon to raise the bar of their program, attract new crossover athletes to the club, and ensure their coaches have the tools to maximize player development. Being based in Seattle just a few miles from the UW campus, we’re proud to support a local partner who has the backing of a strong alumni group and a set of experienced coaches who are building their program the right way.”
Ross Young – CEO, Serevi Rugby

To strengthen Husky recruitment and broaden awareness of the Husky Rugby Club, Serevi will support UW’s camps for youth players from across the region on campus and create an internship at Serevi Rugby’s Seattle offices for promising UW athletes to learn more about the game.

[bra_blockquote align=”]The past few seasons the Husky Rugby Club has been blessed to have former USA Eagles and other high quality coaches helping on a day-to-day basis. Brian Schoener, Joe Rissone, Michiel Telkamp and others are bringing this club to another level and players are seeing the results in their fitness, skill and overall game awareness. To imagine that we’d have an injection of even more coaches with international experience is almost insane, but now we do thanks to this partnership. I’m grateful as the head coach to have so much on-field support from our Seattle coaching community and to be able to draw from so many great minds.” Kevin Swiryn – Men’s Head Coach, UW Rugby Club[/bra_blockquote]NCRC_7s_Action_4_large

[bra_blockquote align=”]I am thrilled to see the growth in our program as we give our athletes more opportunity to grow. Serevi’s high-level coaches are providing opportunities for our girls to become world class athletes which isn’t common when participating in a traditionally underfunded sport like ours. So far the girls are jazzed about taking it to a more competitive level!” Parisa Asgharzadeh – Women’s Head Coach, UW Rugby Club[/bra_blockquote]
Serevi’s coaching team at UW will be led by Pate Tuilevuka, a former USA Eagle player, professional in Europe, and veteran of collegiate game having been a three-year starter at Brigham Young University. Throughout the partnership Serevi will also provide training from the leading coaches today’s game including International Rugby Board (IRB) Hall of Fame member and winner of two Rugby 7s World Cups Waisale Serevi, the IRB’s all time leading 7s scorer Ben Gollings, Irish veteran and USA Men’s Rugby assistant coach Justin Fitzpatrick, Serevi High Performance Manager Chris Tombs, and Serevi’s pool of existing coaches including a number of current USA Eagles.
[bra_blockquote align=”]“This is an exciting moment in the continuing development of our Husky Rugby Club, the oldest club on the UW campus. Our thanks go out to our Alumni for their work in making this come to pass. The great opportunity to work with the exceptional staff within Serevi opens so many doors for our club and for the future to do some exciting joint projects for the betterment of our great sport. This will only add to the growth of our student athletes at Washington and their development as individuals as well as within an elite level program to be.” Mike Alfstad – Program Director and Coach, UW Rugby Club[/bra_blockquote]
[bra_blockquote align=”]The Husky Rugby Alumni Association is pleased to take the lead in forging a mutually beneficial relationship with Serevi Rugby designed to further the development of the young athletes at the University of Washington. Serevi and the UW Rugby Club will partner in several projects over the coming years and the HRAA is proud to lend its support and leadership to this endeavor.” Ky Huggins – President, Husky Rugby Alumni Association[/bra_blockquote]
