HSBC Partners with Atavus

We are delighted to work with HSBC on this new partnership to grow the Game; bringing the skills, fun, and values of Rugby to the new audiences around the world. The moment these children step onto a rugby pitch, they will join a large and tight-knit community of rugby players that unites generations, defies gender and race, and spans the world. I’m thankful to HSBC for the opportunity to give back to the game that has given me so much.”- Waisale Serevi

Since 2013, we have served as the grassroots arm of HSBC’s Rugby sponsorship program by powering their HSBC Rugby Festival Program. Waisale Serevi and Ben Gollings lead this important work.

HSBC is a long-time global Rugby sponsor, most notably as title sponsor for the Men’s Sevens World Series, an annual competition that pits the world’s top 16 squads against each other in a 10-stop series. In 2015, the top four finishers will automatically qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. HSBC also sponsors the British Lions and the Irish Lions.

In the past three years, we have run festivals for HSBC in Brazil, Hong Kong, New York City, Vancouver, Australia, London and the United Arab Emirates. We will continue to activate in markets of importance to HSBC at least through 2020.

Atavus Powered a Rugby Camp in Dubai with the Partnership of HSBC.

At each Festival, we work with an average of 750 kids in locations that have included the favelas of Rio, the Hong Kong border with China, a school in Harlem and a club in Al Ain. Where possible, we also run Coaching Workshops to leave coaches with more tools and skills with which to train young athletes.

The training received by our national teams all the way down to our youth will help us lay the foundation and achieve our goal of becoming a top ranked Caribbean rugby nation. We can’t thank XL enough for this opportunity for our players to work with the best.”- Patrick Calow, BRFU Coach

We are in the final year of a three-year deal with the XL Catlin Group to grow the game of Rugby in Bermuda. We have agreement in principle to a three-year extension. The XL Catlin Group plc is a global insurance company with multiple product lines in both insurance and reinsurance. On the strength of the XL Catlin sponsorship, three or four times per year we send four coaches on-island to:

• Visit island schools to teach the game and encourage participation;

• Work with the at-risk youth of the Beyond Rugby Bermuda program; and

• Work with the full range of representative sides, including the Men’s & Women’s National Teams as they prepare for competitions like NACRA or the Pan Am Games. In three years, we have visited virtually every school on the island and the ranks of young athletes playing has swelled considerably.
