Preparing for South Africa at RWC 2015 – Matt Trouville

A post by our very own: Matt Trouville

Tonight I received one of the greatest honors I could ever dream of, the chance to wear the USA jersey in a Rugby World Cup match. Just to say those words is indescribable! I remember sitting in my lounge room as a kid with a ball under my arm cheering and yelling at the TV during World Cups and now it’s my chance to play in one.

I so grateful to all those who have helped me along the way from coaches and teammates, to my family and friends. You’ve all had a hand in helping me achieve this. My time in the US has been some of the greatest years of my life and the people I’ve met along the way have been incredible. And I get to share the field with some of those people tomorrow.

Three of my Seattle Saracens teammates will be beside me, Lou Stanfill, Ollie Kalifi and Shalom Suniula. People I have coached at Atavus camps, Chris Baumann and Niku Kruger and people I’ve coached with, Zach Fenoglio and Phil Thiel. All of which I call brothers.

I’m so proud to be an Eagle and I can’t wait to get on the field tomorrow!

USA RUGBY MENTIONS in an October 5 Press Release, “The scrum will also be anchored by the grit and hard-nosed work ethic of Danny Barrett and John Quill, who will flank the Seattle Saracens combination of Louis Stanfill and Matt Trouville. Both locks will make their Rugby World Cup 2015 debuts Wednesday, while Stanfill will remember a South African matchup from Rugby World Cup 2007 in France, the first of his three World Cups.”

MIKE TOLKIN SAYS in the said press release, “Overall, the back five is dynamic and they bring aggressiveness,” Tolkin said. “While they have had less playing time than some of the others, they are an experienced group of players. Phil Thiel will lead well up front and also brings a good amount of experience.”
