, a leading provider of on-field programming and conditioning for players and coaches from beginner to the U.S. National Team, and Texas Christian University (TCU) Rugby
have announced a 3-Year partnership to bring the USA Rugby Academy, Powered by Serevi to Texas. Held at TCU Rugby’s home grounds on campus in Forth Worth, Serevi will hold a USA Rugby Academy High Performance Training Camp each year to train and develop young men and women rugby players from across Texas and nearby states. U.S. National Team and Serevi Rugby coaches will participate throughout the program to help identify young players for additional development and future national team consideration. The next camp at TCU will be held December 12-13, 2015.
Partnering with an established rugby club with high quality facilities such as TCU is a great fit for us to connect with players from the hotbed of American rugby that is Texas, ” said Emilie Bydwell, Serevi’s Director of the USA Rugby Academy. “Coach Flowers’ energy and excitement for the game form a solid foundation we can work with to grow the game across the region.”
Under the USA Rugby Academy umbrella, Serevi’s high performance programming will target both current rugby athletes, as well as those multi-sport athletes with the athletic potential for success on the pitch. For those young men and women with the skill, interest and desire, programs will prepare athletes to compete for places on USA age grade teams, the High School All-Americans, AIG Junior All-Americans (U20), Collegiate All-Americans, professional rugby competition, and the Eagles.
Serevi brings with them a wealth of experience, passion and professionalism,” said TeShay Flowers, TCU Rugby Head Coach. “We are confident, and excited about the potential for improvement this partnership will bring, to not only Horned Frog Rugby, but to the North Texas rugby community.”
The TCU camps will also feature College Connection, a hands-on education program to help student-athletes navigate the process and connect with college coaches. This program is provided through a partnership with The Rugger’s Edge, the premiere college athletic advisor for male and female rugby players.
As the sport of rugby grows in popularity in the U.S., an increasing number of young men and women are entering the game, and are seeking specific training programs to improve their performance. According to a recent report by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, participation in rugby has exploded in America, with an 81% growth rate over the last 5 years, including 13.8% growth per year, and 30% growth rate for 6-12 year olds.
Exposure to the game and opportunities for young athletes to play further in life are growing with more college and universities adding varsity, scholarship level rugby programs, and with the addition of rugby to the 2016 Rio Olympics where the men’s and women’s USA Eagles expect to compete with the world’s best rugby nations.
