For The Third Year In A Row, Serevi Rugby Is Bringing Top Of The Line Coaching To Rugby Athletes In Minneapolis.
On May 3rd and 4th, USA Women’s 7s Head Coach Ric Suggit will be joining Women’s Eagle Emilie Bydwell at the Eagan Community Center Fields to provide a unique and exciting experience for both boys and girls ages 13+. In addition to the National Team representation, Minneapolis will be charmed with the coaching and playing experience of the King himself, Waisale Serevi. Serevi was one of the few players at the time to play both fifteens and sevens formats. He played for clubs in England, France, and Japan in addition to his home country Fiji. This coaching trio is guaranteed to created an unmatched rugby experience for all attending athletes.
Serevi High Performance Training Camps, the advanced supplement to Serevi Development Training camps, place a greater emphasis on fundamental execution, decision-making, attacking patterns, creative opposition manipulation, and defensive strategies. With the expansive age ranges seen at these camps, separation by skill and experience allows for calibrated practice plans and provides optimal challenges.
The training camps’ success at Minneapolis in the past is what keeps Serevi coming back for more. With the help of Minnesota Youth Rugby (MYR), Serevi was able to come in contact with over 40 high school rugby teams and 25 college rugby clubs. Executive Director of MYR, Katie Sjeklocha explained the exciting growth of youth and high school rugby in the last 3 years. She says, “Anytime Serevi Camps come to town, they have an immediate impact in elevating the game in our area.” Serevi High Performance Training Camps combine a National Team training regimen with a fundamental skill-intensive environment, ideal for optimizing the development of all attending athletes. Serevi’s partnership with USA Rugby and the creation of the USAR Academy makes the Serevi Training Camps an integral component of the international and Olympic high-performance initiative in America. Sjeklocha continued, “We see the Serevi USAR Academy Program as a direct pathway to becoming an Olympic Athlete.” Serevi Rugby’s investment in high performance rugby improves the quality of programming at University and local rugby clubs and funnels into the National teams.
“We are so lucky to have the camp back for the 3rd year in a row and to have a direct HP pathway to the National Teams in our backyard. It has a huge value for our young Minnesota rugby athletes.”
Serevi Rugby is excited to wrap up the USAR Academy Training Camp Series with a camp of familiar faces. As much as it is a value for the athletes, it is a value for the company. Being able to return to the same city three years in a row and not only see a growth in the programming but see the growth in the athletes is what drives Serevi Rugby’s mission to grow the game in North America and beyond.
