We are excited to recognize three athletes that have participated in ATAVUS programming, that are heading to Toronto, Canada to compete representing the United States in the Pan American games this weekend, July 11 and 12th.

 

Hannah Lopez
USA Women’s Eagles Sevens

Club Team: San Diego Surfers WRC
ATAVUS Connection: Attended both our Women’s Residence Camp and our Training Camp in San Diego in 2012. Member of the Serevi Selects team that toured Fiji in 2013. Also coached youth camps for ATAVUS.
Rugby Background: Began playing rugby in High School in Bend, Oregon. Played for the San Diego Surfers from 2011- 2013. Trained part time at the USA Olympic Training Center. Played in New Zealand for the T-Bird College Rifles for a year before returning to the states. Member of the USA squad that won NACRA 7s in order to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Richelle Stephens
USA Women’s Eagles Sevens

Club Team: Fallbrook Union High School
ATAVUS Connection: Attended our Women’s Residence Camp in San Diego in 2013. Attended our USA Rugby Academy High Performance Training Camp in San Diego in 2014. Named to the Girls High School All-American squad for the Las Vegas 7s Tour.
Rugby Background: Has been playing rugby since 8th grade and lettered all four years of high school. Represented the United States and was co-captain of the women’s  in the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. She was also chosen as the Closing Ceremony flag bearer for the United States. Stephens earned her first start in the NACRA 7s tournament in Cary, NC and was the only USA player to play every minute. Although she has signed with Lindenwood University, she will be taking online classes while training in residence.

Pat Blair
USA Men’s Eagles Sevens

Club Team: Seattle Saracens
ATAVUS Connection: Attended our first Men’s Residence Camp in Seattle in the Summer of 2011. Plays for a Powered by ATAVUS team with the Seattle Saracens, also played for Central Washington State who is Powered by ATAVUS.
Rugby Background: Began playing rugby in 2004 with the Fullerton Lions, then played for the Tacoma U19 Program. Played at Central Washington State where he was selected to two USA Rugby AIG Men’s Collegiate All-American 7s tours. Was a member of the USA squad that won the plate at the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens this year and also represented the USA in the Las Vegas 7s this year.
